Princess Oyefusi denies WhatsApp allegations, threatens legal action

Quick Read

Neither the Labour Party nor the originators of the WhatsApp posts responded to requests for comment at the time of publication.

A political group backing Princess Abiodun Isliyamah Oyefusi, the Labour Party’s former deputy governorship candidate in the 2023 Lagos State elections, has dismissed as “misleading and false” a series of unsubstantiated claims circulating on a local WhatsApp platform.

In a statement issued on behalf of Oyefusi, Engr. Joshua Onipede, Convener of The New Lagos ‘2027’ and Project Lagos ‘27, condemned publications shared within the ADC Ikorodu Local Government Area WhatsApp group.

The posts, now reportedly spreading in parts of Lagos media, allegedly accuse Oyefusi of misappropriation, misconduct, or wrongdoing, though specifics were not detailed in the release.

Oyefusi, described by supporters as a “credible and accomplished” figure with a strong record in Lagos politics, participated prominently in the 2023 elections, emphasizing inclusive governance. And she was never in any position with access to election or party’s finances.

The statement positions her as a leading voice for 2027, gaining broad support across ethnic and religious lines amid calls for accountability and development.

Onipede challenged accusers to provide verifiable evidence to party bodies like the Labour Party’s State and National Working Committees or relevant authorities.

He warned that continued dissemination of unproven claims could lead to civil and criminal liability under Nigeria’s Cybercrimes Act and defamation laws, reserving the right to pursue legal action against individuals or platforms involved.

The release urged the public to reject the “malicious” information and avoid sharing unverified content, stressing the need for fact-based discourse in Ikorodu and Lagos State.

Neither the Labour Party nor the originators of the WhatsApp posts responded to requests for comment at the time of publication.

Oyefusi’s team emphasized her “unwavering commitment” to democratic values as her core credential.
