AFCON 2025: Eric Chelle considers changing tactics against Morocco, gives reasons

Ndidi received his second yellow card during Nigeria’s 2–0 quarter-final win over Algeria. He had earlier been booked in the Round of 16 match against Mozambique.
Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has said he may change Nigeria’s tactical formation ahead of the 1XBET AFCON 2025 semi-final match against Morocco on Wednesday.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Chelle explained that some of his players are becoming tired, and this could affect the team’s usual high-energy style.
So far in the tournament, Chelle has mainly used a 4-4-2 diamond formation, with Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams leading the attack. The Super Eagles have scored 14 goals in five matches and have created more chances than any other team.
Nigeria’s fast, aggressive and energetic style has helped them defeat teams such as Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Mozambique, and Algeria.
However, Chelle said a change may now be necessary.
“I feel my players are tired, so it may be time to adjust our approach. We may play more cautiously in the first half and try to take control in the second half,” he said.
The coach also expressed disappointment over the suspension of Wilfred Ndidi, who will miss the semi-final against Morocco.
Ndidi received his second yellow card during Nigeria’s 2–0 quarter-final win over Algeria. He had earlier been booked in the Round of 16 match against Mozambique.
Chelle admitted that Ndidi is a very important player and his absence will be felt in the team.
