A 17-year-old teenager identified as Walid Mohammed has alleged that he was sprayed with a substance suspected to be acid while on his way to mosque by one Idris Hamza in Yola South-Local Government Area (LGA).

Adamawa Police Command’ spokesperson SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Yola.

Nguroje said that the incident occurred on Jan. 14, at Shagari quarters, when the suspect, one Idris Hamza, sprayed a substance suspected to be acid, on the victim on his way to the Mosque.

According to him, Mohammed on Jan. 14, 2026 ran to the Shagari Division Headquarters in distress to report that while on his way to mosque, he was sprayed with a substance suspected to be acidic by one Idris Hamza, a resident of Shagari, Yola South LGA.

He added that Mohammed identified one one Idris Hamza as the person who sprayed the substance on him while he was on his way to the Mosque.

“Following the report, the victim was immediately rushed to a hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment while the alleged suspect was taken into custody”, he said.

Nguroje said that the Adamawa Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case, and ensure thorough investigation.
