The Kano State Police Command has launched a full investigation into a brutal attack that left a woman and her six children dead in Dorayi Charanchi Quarters, Kano, sending shockwaves through the community.

According to the police, the command received a distress call at about 12:10 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2025, reporting a violent invasion of the residence of Haruna Bashir by suspected hoodlums.

The assailants reportedly broke into the house and attacked Fatima Abubakar, aged 35, and her six children with dangerous weapons.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi, said the victims sustained fatal injuries during the assault.

“The report indicated that the victims were attacked with dangerous weapons, resulting in fatal injuries,” he stated.

Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, immediately ordered the deployment of a tactical police team to the scene. The team was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Lawal Isah Mani.

The victims were evacuated from the scene and rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where medical personnel confirmed them dead on arrival.

The tragic incident has heightened fear and grief in the Dorayi Charanchi area, with residents struggling to comprehend the scale of the violence.

To ensure those responsible are brought to justice, the Commissioner of Police directed the Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case.

An investigative team led by Wada Jarma has been tasked with conducting a thorough probe into the killings.

The police said the investigation would focus on identifying the attackers, establishing their motive and ensuring swift prosecution once suspects are apprehended.

“The Kano State Police Command extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family, the people of Dorayi Charanchi and Kano State at large,” the spokesperson added, assuring residents of the command’s commitment to restoring calm and strengthening security in the area.
