Grammy Award-winning Nigerian artiste, Burna Boy, narrowly avoided being denied entry into Morocco after customs officials raised concerns over his jewellery on arrival at the airport, the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, has revealed.
Motsepe disclosed the incident during a press conference, explaining that the singer was temporarily held by Moroccan customs officers who flagged his heavy gold jewellery for scrutiny.
According to the CAF boss, the situation required his personal intervention before it was peacefully resolved, allowing Burna Boy to proceed with his visit.
“I was called to intervene because Burna Boy was stopped at the airport after customs officials noticed his heavy and beautiful gold jewellery,” Motsepe said. “I intervened, and the issue was resolved.”
Burna Boy was in Morocco to headline the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Fan Zone concert held in Rabat on January 16.
