President Bola Tinubu has directed a diligent prosecution of suspects arrested in connection with the brutal murder of a Kano housewife and her six children, describing the killings as barbaric and unacceptable in a civilized society.

Tinubu’s directive came amid national outrage over the tragic attack on Fatima Abubakar and her children, who were found dead in their family home at Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters in Kano on Saturday afternoon.

The Nigeria Police Force confirmed that three principal suspects have been arrested following intelligence-led operations between January 17 and the early hours of January 18.

The suspects include a 23-year-old man and two others believed to have been linked to the heinous crime.

In a statement on Monday, released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised the police for the swift arrests and emphasised that the Federal Government “would not tolerate such senseless acts of violence”.

He urged security agencies to ensure the investigation and diligent prosecution of all those involved.

“The President condemned the action as barbaric and condoled with the bereaved family over the tragedy,” the statement said, reflecting growing calls from community and political leaders for accountability.

The slaughter of seven members of a single family elicited strong condemnation from across the political spectrum, with Abba Kabir Yusuf, Governor of Kano, describing it as “barbaric and unacceptable” and vowing that “the perpetrators will not escape justice”.

Tinubu made the prosecution order as he also mourned the passing of Alhaji Bature Abdulaziz, a revered Kano business leader and former National President of the Harmonised Traders Association of Nigeria, who died at age 76 after a brief illness.

Abdulaziz was widely respected for his leadership in trade advocacy and his efforts to promote economic empowerment and peace through civic networks.

Expressing condolences to the Kano business community, Tinubu noted Abdulaziz’s influence extended well beyond the state, acknowledging the late leader’s support during the 2023 election cycle and his persistent advocacy for national unity.
