Lagos Taskforce declares war on Okada, 134 Motorcycles impounded in one day

The Lagos State Taskforce has intensified enforcement against illegal commercial motorcycle (okada) operations, impounding 134 motorcycles during coordinated operations across key corridors of Lagos State.

The exercise, carried out in two phases in the early hours of day, followed a similar operation earlier in the morning, signalling the agency’s resolve to sustain pressure on violators of traffic and security regulations.

Officials said the clean-up drive targeted persistent breaches that endanger public safety and undermine traffic order.

Enforcement teams covered strategic locations including Obalende, Falomo Underbridge, Coastal Road, CMS Roundabout on Lagos Island, 2nd Rainbow, Mile 2 Bridge, Five Star, Ladipo Bus Stop and Cele Bus Stop along the Oshodi–Apapa Expressway.

During the operation, several okada riders were apprehended for plying restricted routes, obstructing traffic flow and causing public nuisance on major highways and adjoining roads.

At the end of the twin operations, 134 commercial motorcycles were impounded, with authorities reporting restored sanity across the affected areas.

The Taskforce reiterated that all seized motorcycles will be processed and forfeited to the state through the courts, in line with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.

It also reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining enforcement actions until full compliance is achieved, warning that operations on prohibited routes will be decisively crippled.
