One dead, 8 injured in crash as truck driver sleeps off in Ogun

One male passenger died while eight others were injured in a lone tragic accident involving a Volvo truck in the Uncle Abbey Block Industry, Isara-Remo axis of Lagos/Ibadan Expressway early Wednesday.

According to a statement by the spokesperson of Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Mr Akinbiyi Babatunde, the accident occurred at approximately 03:22 hrs on Wednesday.

Babatunde quoted eyewitnesses as saying that the truck veer off the road after the driver fell asleep at the wheel.

He added that rescue teams, including TRACE, Papa Oscar, and FRSC, responded promptly, evacuating the injured to Victory Hospital, Ogere-Remo.

The TRACE spokesperson said deceased remains, along with two unharmed males, were released to Truckers’ Union representatives.

He added that efforts are underway to recover the truck and clear the cargo.
