Nigeria’s Future Lies With ACN —Lagos Speaker
Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, says his party, the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, holds the keys to the country’s future.
Ikuforiji stated this when ACN chairmen from the state’s 57 local councils, under the auspices of ‘Conference of 57 LGA Chairmen in Lagos State, paid him a courtesy/solidarity visit at the Assembly complex in Alausa, Ikeja.
The Speaker said since the party members are aware of this, they have continued to ensure the unity and effective running of the party to achieve this target of bringing Nigerians out of the challenges facing the country.
“It is only when the party is run properly that it can continue to exist and affect the lives of Lagosians and Nigeria in the future,†stressing that the future he is talking about is 2015.
He told the group, led by its chairman, Otunba Dengel Anifowoshe, that the position of ACN chairmen at the ward and local council levels can never become irrelevant since the party relies on them for grassroots support.
Ikuforiji, who expressed joy at the visit, said: “As elected representatives, we know that the beginning of any politician is to have the support of LGA and LCDA chairmen; if not the path will be rough, but with your support the journey is always smooth. You are the real grassroots and engine room of the party.â€
In his speech, Anifowoshe said they were in the House to pay a solidarity visit to the Speaker because of the travails he is going through in the hands of political detractors which has led to his facing some charges from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
“As a member of ACN who has done well in his chosen career and being the longest serving Speaker in Nigeria , we believe that we should come and sympathise with him, pay our solidarity to him and reassure him that the party is solidly behind him.
“We also feel that we should pay a courtesy visit to all members of the state House of Assembly for the good job they are doing, because Lagos is the only state where there is no political acrimony or pandemonium between the legislature and the Executive arm of government,†Anifowoshe said.
He also appealed to the speaker to use his good offices to talk to council chairmen to carry the party chairmen along in the scheme of things as they are left in the dark most of the time.
