Afro-fusion singer and songwriter Majorkay has made a notable return to the Nigerian music scene with the release of his new extended play (EP), MODUPE, unveiled on January 21, 2026.
The six-track project marks a defining moment in the Lagos-bred, Eastern-rooted artist’s career, reflecting themes of gratitude, resilience, and personal growth. MODUPE arrives after a relatively quiet period for the singer, following a public fallout with a former collaborative partner that prompted him to step back from the spotlight.
Majorkay featured Superwozzy, Barryjhay and Jeriq on the project and he also employed the services of amazing producers including Jardon, Skalla, Sequence beats and Tinobeats.
Rather than retreat permanently, Majorkay used the period for reflection and creative recalibration. The result is a project that feels intentional and grounded, offering listeners an honest account of an artist rebuilding with clarity and purpose.
Leading the EP is “YBFS (Young Boy From Shalanga)”, a grass-to-grace anthem that has quickly emerged as the standout track. The song has recorded over 10,000 streams and 7,000 Shazams within its early release window, resonating strongly with audiences drawn to its message of perseverance and self-belief.
Another highlight on the project is “Blessed,” featuring indigenous rapper Jeriq. The collaboration has gained significant traction in Eastern Nigeria, blending Majorkay’s soulful delivery with Jeriq’s gritty street energy. The result is a reflective yet triumphant record that many fans regard as one of the EP’s strongest moments.
With MODUPE, Majorkay leans fully into his Afro-fusion identity, shaped by years of musical training and lived experiences across Anambra, Asaba, and Lagos. The EP combines gratitude-filled melodies with street-conscious storytelling, reinforcing the idea that setbacks do not erase purpose but rather refine it.
The project positions Majorkay not merely as an artist making a comeback, but as one entering a new phase of his career, more grounded, self-aware, and confident in his artistic direction.
With MODUPE, Majorkay signals his readiness to move forward, reaffirming his place in Nigeria’s evolving Afro-fusion landscape.
