Victor Osimhen etched his name deeper into Galatasaray folklore on Saturday, scoring his landmark 50th goal for the club in a commanding 3-1 Süper Lig away win against Fatih Karagümrük at the Vefa Stadı.
The Nigerian striker’s clinical finish in the 55th minute not only sealed the three points but also marked him as the fastest player in the modern era to reach the half-century for the Turkish giants.
Galatasaray, under coach Okan Buruk, asserted dominance from the outset.
Brazilian midfielder Gabriel Sara opened the scoring inside the first minute, slotting home a low drive after a killer pass left him one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
Karagümrük responded impressively in the 27th minute when Baris Kalayci unleashed a perfect strike from the edge of the box into the top right corner to level the scores at 1-1.
The visitors regained control after halftime. Roland Sallai delivered a precise lofted pass for Gabriel Sara to rise highest and head home from near the penalty spot in the 51st minute, restoring the lead at 2-1.
Osimhen then pounced on a loose ball inside the box five minutes later, beating the goalkeeper with a powerful shot into the top left corner to make it 3-1 and trigger wild celebrations among the traveling fans and his teammates.
The goal represented Osimhen’s 50th in just 59 appearances across all competitions for Galatasaray since joining the club, a remarkable feat that surpasses previous benchmarks, including being 10 games quicker than club legend Mauro Icardi to the same milestone in the post-2000 era.
Reports highlight his blistering form: 37 goals in his debut season across 41 games, followed by 13 more this campaign to reach the half-century.
Osimhen was substituted in the 79th minute to a standing ovation from the Galatasaray bench and supporters, having earlier seen a shot blocked in the first half.
His strike came amid a dominant second-half display, with the team showcasing excellent chemistry through short passes and fluid movement.
The win strengthens Galatasaray’s position at the top of the Süper Lig table, extending their impressive run and underscoring their title credentials.
Karagümrük, despite a spirited effort and several late chances, remain in the lower half of the standings.
