The Yobe State Police Command has taken into custody a 35-year-old man over the alleged sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl in Babbangida town, Tarmuwa Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Dungus Abdulkarim, said the suspect, Aliyu Yarima from Potiskum Local Government Area, was arrested after police received a distress report.
According to the police, preliminary findings indicate that the incident occurred on January 16, 2026.
“Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspect allegedly lured the victim and gave her a soft drink mixed with hard drugs, which rendered her unconscious,” Abdulkarim said.
He explained that the suspect allegedly took the teenager to his residence, where the assault was said to have occurred.
“He then took her to his residence, where he allegedly committed the act of rape. The victim reportedly sustained serious internal injuries, which delayed her reporting the incident,” he added.
The police spokesperson said the girl was eventually taken to the General Hospital in Babbangida, where medical examinations confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted.

He noted that investigations were ongoing and that the suspect would be arraigned in court once inquiries were concluded.
Abdulkarim urged residents to promptly report cases of sexual abuse and other criminal acts, assuring the public of the command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable persons.
