Police in Enugu have arrested four suspected drug dealers in separate intelligence-led operations, recovering substances believed to be cannabis and hard drugs, alongside ₦1.8m in cash.
The arrests were carried out by operatives of the State Police Command’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team and Anti-Cultism Squad during raids across parts of the Enugu metropolis.
Police spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, said the operations were aimed at breaking drug supply chains and tackling crimes linked to narcotics.
According to him, SWAT operatives, acting on credible intelligence, raided a hideout behind New Market on January 26 and arrested a 46-year-old woman, Omeru Nkechi.
“Exhibits recovered from the suspect include one big bag of substance suspected to be Indian hemp; one POS machine; two ATM cards; and a cash sum of ₦1,800,000.00,” Ndukwe said.
He added that other items seized included electrical wires, a water-pumping machine and assorted equipment believed to be proceeds of criminal activity.
In a separate operation on January 25, officers of the Anti-Cultism Squad arrested three male suspects; Anielozie Emmanuel (21), Ekoh Miracle (20) and Nwachukwu Michael (27), during patrols in Obeagu, Asata and the Holy Ghost Railway area.
Items recovered from the suspects included “thirty-two small containers filled with substances suspected to be cannabis” and “twelve wrapped pills suspected to be hard drugs”.
