President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep condolences to Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi following the death of his father, Sunday Ndidi, in a tragic road accident.

Sunday Ndidi, a retired military officer, reportedly died on Tuesday in Umunede, near Agbor, Delta State.

The incident was confirmed after he was rushed to a hospital in Agbor, where he was pronounced dead.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Tinubu described the loss as tragic and offered sympathy to the footballer and his family.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of Sunday Ndidi. I share in the grief of his family, friends, and associates, particularly Wilfred Ndidi, who shared a strong bond with his father as a mentor and guide in his remarkable career as an exceptional footballer,” the statement read.

The President praised Sunday Ndidi’s modest upbringing and honesty, noting the positive influence he had on those who looked up to him. He prayed for divine comfort for the family and eternal rest for the deceased.

Leicester City, Ndidi’s club, also confirmed the incident, saying:

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of our footballer Wilfred Ndidi’s esteemed father, Sunday Ndidi, in a fatal traffic accident.”
