Afrobeats singer Iyanya has opened up about the challenges fame has posed to his love life, revealing that past heartbreaks and the pressures of the entertainment industry have made it difficult for him to commit to relationships.

The 39-year-old artiste made the disclosure during a recent appearance on the Afropolitan podcast, where he reflected on how negative experiences with former partners have shaped his current outlook on love and commitment.

According to Iyanya, some of his past relationships ended badly, with partners allegedly threatening to damage his reputation by taking personal issues to gossip blogs whenever disagreements arose.

He explained that such experiences, coupled with the constant public scrutiny that comes with being a celebrity, have left emotional scars and contributed to his reluctance to enter a serious relationship.

“I’m not thinking of a serious relationship or marriage because I’m not mentally ready yet,” he said. “If you are patient and stick around until I get to a convenient space, then we can do it.”

Iyanya noted that his focus at the moment is on healing and personal growth, stressing that commitment has become one of the hardest things for him to embrace.

“To be committed is one of the hardest things for me to do right now,” he added. “I have been committed several times as a celebrity, and each time, I got hurt.”

The singer further explained that fame often complicates romantic relationships, as misunderstandings are sometimes taken straight to social media and blogs.

“When you are famous, you always have girlfriends who can’t wait to go to the blogs when you have misunderstandings,” he said. “I’m human too. I’ve been in the music industry for 17 years; it’s not possible that all I’ve done is play games with women. I’ve genuinely fallen in love before.”
