Carlos Alcaraz has rewritten tennis history, defeating Novak Djokovic 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5 in a pulsating Australian Open men’s final to become the youngest man ever to complete a career Grand Slam.

At just 22, the world number one produced a performance of remarkable maturity and resilience to deny Djokovic a record-breaking 25th major singles title and to claim his seventh Grand Slam crown.

The victory cements Alcaraz’s status not just as the present force in men’s tennis, but as its defining figure for the next generation.

The final began with a familiar script as Djokovic, bidding to stand alone atop the all-time Grand Slam list, asserted his authority early.

The Serb swept through the opening set 6-2, dictating rallies and forcing errors from the Spaniard. Yet Alcaraz responded with the poise of a seasoned champion, raising his intensity, sharpening his returns and gradually turning the momentum.

The fourth set delivered the drama befitting a Grand Slam final. Djokovic, feeding off a raucous crowd, repeatedly summoned energy under pressure, but Alcaraz refused to blink. At 5-5, the Spaniard struck decisively, breaking serve before calmly closing out the match 7-5 amid deafening roars.

As Djokovic faltered on championship point, Alcaraz sank to the court in celebration, having achieved what no man his age has managed before, winning all four majors and ushering in a new era at the top of the sport.
