The Federal Government has announced plans to arraign suspects linked to the Yelwata killings before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The arraighment will take place on Monday.

The Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Sunday, stating that the defendants would appear before  Justice Joyce Abdulmalik following extensive investigations.

According to the statement, the prosecution followed “a painstaking investigation and collaboration by government agencies.”

“The Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice wishes to assure Nigerians that justice will be ensured in the matter, to send a strong signal to the enemies of the country acting under any disguise,” the statement said.

The statement, signed by the Attorney General’s media aide, Mr Kamarudeen Ogundele, added that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remained committed to safeguarding lives and property in line with constitutional provisions.

The Yelwata massacre occurred in June 2025 in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, where armed assailants reportedly attacked homes, a market and a Catholic mission.

The violence, which began late on June 13 and stretched into the early hours of June 14, left more than 100 people dead and displaced about 3,000 residents.

President Tinubu had condemned the attack and directed security and investigative agencies to identify and prosecute those responsible.
