Emmanuel Ogidi, the Caretaker National Vice-Chairman (South-South) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says the party is working hard to rebuild unity and form alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ogidi said the PDP is committed to defending Nigeria’s democracy and becoming a strong opposition party, despite some internal disagreements.

He acknowledged that there are challenges within the party but insisted they would not stop the PDP from its goal of protecting democratic governance and restoring public trust.

Ogidi said the PDP understands the seriousness of Nigeria’s current political situation and is determined to meet the expectations of Nigerians who see the party as a stabilizing force in democracy.

He said, “Yes, today we have some problems in the PDP, but we are determined and we believe in God because we know we are the only viable opposition.

“We will fight to protect democracy; without it, the country could become a banana republic. We are committed to this mission.

“We will reach out to anyone possible in other parties, including the ruling APC, to see what we can gain; otherwise, the country will face serious problems.”

Ogidi added that the PDP’s main focus for the 2027 elections will be protecting democracy, promoting national unity, and providing Nigerians with a credible alternative to the ruling party.

He accused the APC of caring more about winning elections than governing effectively and questioned why the party, less than two years into office, seems more focused on campaigns than solving national issues.

Ogidi warned that weakening democratic institutions could lead to instability and assured that the PDP would do everything it can to prevent that.
