A five-year-old boy has returned safely to his family after being taken into custody during a recent immigration enforcement raid by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency.

The child,  Liam Conejo Ramos, was released to the care of relatives late on Monday following a brief period in government custody. The family expressed relief and gratitude after what they described as a “frightening and bewildering” experience.

According to the family’s lawyer, the boy was separated from his guardian when ICE officers conducted a raid on a residential property in [City/State] last week. The operation was part of a broader effort to apprehend undocumented adults suspected of immigration violations.

Advocates and civil liberties groups had raised concerns about the child’s detention, calling it unnecessary and harmful. “No child should ever be treated as a threat simply because of the circumstances of their family,” said a spokesperson for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). “We are relieved that this young boy is now back with his loved ones.”

ICE officials confirmed the child’s release but maintained that agents acted in accordance with protocol. “The wellbeing of minors is a priority,” a statement from the agency read. “Once it was clear that the child was not subject to any enforcement actions, he was returned to family care as quickly as possible.”

The incident has sparked renewed debate over immigration enforcement practices and the treatment of children during raids. Local advocacy groups held a vigil outside the family’s home on Tuesday, urging policymakers to review enforcement procedures to prevent similar incidents in future.

The boy’s family said they are focused on his recovery and reintegration into everyday life. “He’s a young boy who didn’t understand what was happening,” said a close relative. “We just want him to feel safe again.”
