Why I would love to marry five husbands – BBNaija’s Phyna

Former Big Brother Naija winner, Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has stirred reactions on social media after declaring her desire to marry multiple husbands if Nigeria’s marriage laws were amended.

Phyna made the controversial statement in a viral video where she openly criticised existing marital laws, arguing that women should enjoy the same marital freedoms as men.,lp

According to her, women are unfairly restricted to marrying only one man, while men are legally allowed to take more than one wife under certain systems.

“The only thing I want now is that they should just change the law,” Phyna said. “Why should women be restricted to one husband when men can marry plenty wives?”

The reality TV star stated that if the law permits, she would willingly marry up to five men and treat them equally.

“I go marry like five men. You dey whine? I go buy the same clothes for all of them. The five of them will enjoy the same lifestyle,” she said.

Using humour and relatable examples, Phyna added that instead of owning a regular family car, she would buy a Sprinter bus to accommodate her multiple husbands.

“Instead of Sienna, we go buy Sprinter,” she added jokingly.

Phyna further referenced practices in other parts of the world, including some communities in India, where polyandry exists, suggesting that Nigeria could also explore such systems if women desire it.

Describing herself as ready to become a polygamous woman, the former BBNaija star urged women to be bold and united in pushing for laws that promote equality in marriage.
