In a late twist on the final day of the January transfer window, Premier League side Sunderland have agreed to send Ivorian winger Simon Adingra on loan to Ligue 1 club AS Monaco, according to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Romano confirmed the deal with his signature “here we go” declaration, stating that verbal agreement has been reached between the two clubs.

The arrangement is structured as a loan for the remainder of the 2025-26 season, with Sunderland receiving a €1 million loan fee. Monaco have secured an option to make the transfer permanent in the summer for €17 million.

PM NEWS reports that the 24-year-old is now progressing through final administrative steps, with his visa being finalized and a medical examination scheduled next.

The move comes as a mutual benefit for all parties, allowing Adingra greater opportunities for regular first-team football.

Adingra joined Sunderland from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 2025 for a reported fee in the region of £21 million (around €24 million), signing a long-term contract until 2030.

Despite showing promise as an attacking option as a result of his previous success at Brighton, where he contributed goals and assists in the Premier League, and his international pedigree with Ivory Coast, the winger has struggled to secure a consistent starting role under manager Régis Le Bris this season.

He has made around 15 appearances across competitions, including nine Premier League starts, registering one goal and one assist in the league.
