A Met police officer has been dismissed without notice after a gross misconduct hearing upheld allegations that he subjected a woman to sustained sexual and physical abuse over several years.

The hearing, which ended on Friday, 30 January, found that PC Ian Williams had committed gross misconduct after a panel examined multiple allegations of assault and sexual assault made by a female victim known to him.

The panel ruled that Williams had breached the standards of professional behaviour relating to discreditable conduct, concluding that his actions were incompatible with continued service in the police.

Reacting to the outcome, Detective Chief Superintendent Andy Day described the victim’s decision to come forward as an act of “exceptional bravery”, noting that it enabled the force to hold the officer accountable for what he called “deplorable actions”.

He added that the victim continues to receive full support.

Day said the case underscored the force’s commitment to strengthening professional standards and rebuilding public confidence, particularly in how allegations of abuse involving officers are addressed.

Following his dismissal, the Met said Williams will be placed on the barred list maintained by the College of Policing.

Individuals listed are prohibited from future employment with police forces, local policing bodies, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, or His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services.
