The Chairman of Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State, Alhaji Surajo Aliyu-Daudawa, has described the killing of 20 residents of Doma community in the council area by bandits as the most devastating attack in the last five months.

The bandits attacked Doma community in broad daylight, killing at least 20 residents of the community on Tuesday.

The mass murder of the residents happened in spite of the peace deal reached between the bandits and the local community.

While confirming the incident, Daudawa described it as a reprisal attack.

The local government chairman said the corpses of the victims were evacuated and their funeral rites would be conducted in Tafoki town on Wednesday morning.

He condoled with the community over the incident, and prayed Allah to avert future occurrence.

However, eyewitnesses said the bandits invaded Doma community in the afternoon and remained there, perpetrating their nefarious act until around after 4pm., when they withdrew.

The eyewitnesses said that the bandits also set a number of houses in the area ablaze before they left.

However, the Katsina olice Command said that 13 people were killed by the assailants during the attack.

This was revealed in a statement by the Katsina police spokesperson, DSP Aliyu Abubakar, in a statement on Tuesday.

He said security operatives responded to the attack by the bandits.

However, Abubakar said the bandits have wreaked havoc and ran away from the community before the arrival of the security operatives.

He said: “On Feb. 3, 2026, at about 1400 hours, a distress call was received at Faskari Division that some suspected bandits, armed with dangerous weapons and shooting sporadically, attacked Doma village, Faskari LGA, Katsina State.

“Upon receipt of the report, quickly, the DPO mobilised operatives, in collaboration with the military, and members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) responded to the scene.

“Unfortunately, the assailants have fatally shot 13 persons and escaped the scene before the arrival of the operatives.”
