Popular Twitch streamer and internet personality, Kai Cenat, has arrived in Lagos for the second time, amid renewed attention on his long-promised school project for children in Makoko.
Cenat touched down at Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Wednesday and was welcomed with a band performance, immediately sparking buzz across social media.
The visit comes nearly a year after his first trip to Nigeria, during which he pledged $5 million to build a school for children in the waterfront community of Makoko, often referred to as Lagos’ floating slum.
The project has faced delays, largely due to challenges with land acquisition and regulatory approvals in Makoko. Given the area’s unique floating structures, Cenat’s team later relocated the planned school site to Yaba, a more stable part of Lagos. Cenat has assured that children from Makoko will still benefit from free education once the school is operational.
During his Mafiathon 3 livestream, Cenat revealed that over $1 million has already been raised for the project. He outlined plans for phased spending and stressed long-term sustainability, saying the aim is to create a lasting institution rather than rush construction.
Cenat’s return has reignited excitement among Nigerian fans, many hopeful that his visit signals fresh momentum for the project. However, some online users remain sceptical, calling for visible progress and clearer timelines.
