After AFCON, the chairman and I talked like father and son, and we agreed it might be best for me to step away for now. It was a tough decision, but I made it myself.”
Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has said he does not have a new club after ending his contract with South African side Chippa United by mutual agreement.
“To be honest, I don’t have a club or contract right now,” Nwabali told SABC Metrofm.
“It was an agreement where both sides felt at peace. We wished each other well, and now I can focus on the next step in my career.
“I’ve been at Chippa United for four years, and it’s been a good experience. But sometimes, as a player or manager, you need to move forward. My happiness comes first.”
Nwabali lost his spot as Chippa United’s No 1 goalkeeper to Dumisani Msibi after returning from the 2025 AFCON. Msibi has kept four clean sheets in four league games.
However, Nwabali said this was not the reason he left, even though he had six months left on his contract.
“Before AFCON, I was injured from the Orlando Pirates game and was trying to recover and come back strong,” he explained.
“After AFCON, the chairman and I talked like father and son, and we agreed it might be best for me to step away for now. It was a tough decision, but I made it myself.”
