“We are grateful that our team acted quickly and was able to rescue the young woman alive. This highlights the importance of vigilance around open wells and other hazardous areas,” Abdullahi stated.

A swift emergency response by the Kano State Fire Service on Tuesday saved the life of a 23-year-old woman who accidentally fell into a well in Gurungawa community, Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.

The incident was confirmed in a statement issued by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi, who said the alert was received shortly after midnight.

According to him, the agency’s Emergency Response Unit was contacted at about 12:25 a.m. by a resident, Lawan Aminu, who reported that a woman had fallen into an uncovered well.

Following the call, a rescue team was immediately dispatched from the Fire Service headquarters to the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the victim, identified as Ladidi Muhammad Sani, trapped inside the well. She was successfully pulled out alive and later reunited with her father, Abdullahi Sani.

“We are grateful that our team acted quickly and was able to rescue the young woman alive. This highlights the importance of vigilance around open wells and other hazardous areas,” Abdullahi stated.

He added that investigations were ongoing to determine how the incident occurred.

The rescue comes amid a series of recent well- and water-related accidents in Kano State. Only a day earlier, a 30-year-old man reportedly lost his life while attempting to retrieve a burning gas cylinder from a well in Gwarzo Local Government Area.

In separate incidents last Friday, two children also drowned in different locations across the state. Abdullahi said 18-year-old Yusif Malam-Gwani drowned in an open water body at Bachirawa, Kwanar Madugu, in Ungogo Local Government Area.

He further disclosed that an eight-year-old boy, Abdussalam Ibrahim, fell into a well at Kofar Yamma in Karaye town, Karaye Local Government Area.

The Fire Service used the opportunity to caution residents against leaving wells uncovered and urged the public to observe basic safety measures to prevent avoidable tragedies
