Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has warned Nigerians to be cautious after a fake AI-manipulated video circulating online purportedly showed her promoting a new investment platform.

In a post on her verified Twitter/X account, Okonjo-Iweala stated that the video, which claimed Nigerians could earn as much as N5 million weekly with a starting investment of N380,000, is not genuine.

She emphasised that she does not post content on Instagram, Facebook, or WhatsApp and that any videos or messages featuring her image on these platforms are fraudulent.

“Just alerting Nigerians. Another fake AI-manipulated video. The authorities are handling. Just wanted to alert you to be aware of this. As I repeatedly said, I never post anything on Instagram, Facebook, or WhatsApp. Anything emanating from these sources with my image is not from me. I only post on Twitter/X,” she wrote.

The WTO chief urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid being duped by such scams, which exploit AI technology to create realistic but false content.
