Popular Nigerian cleric and relationship coach, Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo, has revealed how his wife played a major role in teaching him how to express love during their early dating days.

Okonkwo, who recently made headlines after drawing a tattoo on his arm to mark his 50th birthday, shared the experience during a recent interview.

The founder of David Christian Centre said while they were dating, he did not understand the importance of consistent communication in a relationship.

According to him, if he saw his wife on a Monday, he would not call her again until the next time they planned to meet.

“My wife had to teach me how to love her. When we were dating, if I saw her on a Monday, I wouldn’t call her again until I was seeing her next,” he said.

He explained that his upbringing shaped his behaviour, noting that he grew up in a household of five boys, with his mother, who he said was a soldier, being the only woman in the home.

Okonkwo said the experience meant he did not naturally understand emotional expressions in relationships until his wife helped him learn.

The cleric also used the opportunity to advise women to communicate their expectations clearly in relationships.

He said men do not always understand emotional needs and urged women to express what they want with love rather than harshness.

Pastor Okonkwo is widely known for teaching on relationships, marriage and family life, both in church and on social media platforms.

The cleric has been trending in recent weeks after unveiling a tattoo bearing a Bible verse in Roman numerals to celebrate his 50th birthday, a move that sparked widespread debate among Christians and on social media.

He had explained that the tattoo, which references John 3:16, was meant as a form of evangelism and to spread the gospel message.
