The Nigerian Army has vowed to ramp up its crackdown on criminal enclaves in Plateau State.
It says it will blend sustained military offensives with community-based interventions aimed at safeguarding lives, property and sources of income as the planting season gathers pace.
The pledge was made on Thursday by the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of Operation Enduring Peace, Major General Folunsho Oyinlola, during a high-level engagement with leaders from Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
Oyinlola disclosed that Operation Enduring Peace would step up the dislodgement of armed groups, sustain intensive patrols in volatile locations and deepen coordination with other security agencies operating in the state.
He urged community leaders and residents to work closely with security forces, cautioning that fresh risks were emerging, including attacks targeting miners and the movement of cattle into cultivated farmlands.
“These are clear early warning signs that demand urgent, collective action.
“We cannot allow Barkin Ladi to relapse into avoidable conflict, especially now that the farming season is commencing, a period vital to the livelihoods of countless families,” he said.
