The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially released the timetable for the 2027 general elections on Friday.

🔹 1. Official Election Dates Confirmed

  • Presidential & National Assembly Elections: 20 February 2027

  • Governorship & State Houses of Assembly Elections: 6 March 2027

INEC has formally fixed the dates, putting an end to speculation and unofficial schedules circulating in public discourse.

🔹 2. Constitutional and Legal Backing

  • The Notice of Election complies with the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

  • It also adheres to Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which requires publication at least 360 days before the election date.

  • INEC reaffirmed that it is the sole constitutional authority empowered to fix election dates.

🔹 3. Offices to be Contested

The 2027 General Elections will cover:

  • President and Vice President

  • Governors and Deputy Governors (except Anambra, Bayelsa, Edo, Ekiti, Imo, Kogi, Ondo and Osun States)
