“Honourable members have been strongly advised to prioritise attendance, given the importance of the issues under consideration,” he said.

The House of Representatives will return to plenary on Tuesday for an emergency session to examine the 2027 general election timetable unveiled by the Independent National Electoral Commission last Friday.

In a statement, the House Spokesman and Chairman of the Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Akintunde Rotimi, said lawmakers would consider issues arising from the commission’s announced schedule of activities.

Rotimi disclosed that members were formally notified through an internal memorandum issued from the Office of the Speaker. The memo, he explained, underscored the constitutional weight of the development and the urgency of legislative review.

He noted that the special sitting demonstrates the chamber’s determination to respond swiftly to matters with significant implications for the country’s democratic framework. According to him, discussions will centre on legislative responsibilities linked to the timetable, in keeping with the constitutional mandate of the National Assembly.

Rotimi added that proceedings connected to the issue would be handled without delay. “Honourable members have been strongly advised to prioritise attendance, given the importance of the issues under consideration,” he said.

He further stressed, “The House remains committed to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic institutions through responsive and responsible lawmaking, and acting in the best interest of Nigerians on all matters.”
