Former Big Brother Naija housemate Pere Egbi has stirred controversy online after stating that identifying as gay, lesbian, or transgender is a sin.

The reality star was reacting to a post by a cleric, Dr. Kevin M. Young, who had taken to X (formerly Twitter) to argue that being LGBTQ+ is not a sin and not something individuals need to repent from.

According to the pastor, sexual orientation is not a choice and cannot be changed.

In his post, he wrote: “Being LGBTQ+ isn’t a sin, nor does the Bible ever say it is. You cannot ‘repent’ of your sexual orientation because you did not choose it, nor can you change it. God loves you the way God themself created you.”

Responding to the statement, Pere disagreed, maintaining that homosexuality contradicts biblical teachings.

He stated that being LGBTQ+ is a sin like other sins, though not greater or lesser than any other wrongdoing.

“Being LGBTQ+ is a sin as other sins. It’s not a greater sin nor is it a lesser sin,” Pere wrote. “God did not create a man for another man nor a woman for another woman. He didn’t make a man to be with other men.”

He further referenced the biblical story of Sodom and Gomorrah, stating that the cities were destroyed because of similar issues.
