Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested 17 drug peddlers and seized large quantities of assorted illicit drugs in Kano state.
The breakthrough came through intensified enforcement activities under the special initiative of Kano NDLEA Strategic Command: “Operation Ramadan Mubarak,” aimed at ensuring a safe, secure and drug‑free environment throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
Following the directives of Commander in-charge of Kano Strategic Command, CN DY Lawal, operatives conducted a series of intelligence‑led raids at strategic locations across Kano, including Race Course, Dan’agundi, Filin Mahaha, Kano Zoological Garden, Farm Center by Zaria Road, and Tashar Rami Na’ibawa.
The coordinated operations resulted in the arrest of 17 suspects involved in drug‑related activities.
Seized items recovered during the raids include assorted illicit substances such as Ice (methamphetamine), cannabis sativa, Exol-5, diazepam, and rubber solution.
Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics, and the Public Relations Officer, of the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, in a Statement, noted that, “these seizures reflect the Command’s continued commitment to dismantling drug networks and curbing the distribution and abuse of narcotics within the state.”
According to him, “the enforcement drive is in line with the directive of the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Agency, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), CON, OFR, who has called for intensified nationwide operations to promote a drug‑free society. Commander Lawal reiterated the Command’s resolve to safeguard communities across Kano State and assured residents that operations will be sustained to ensure a drug‑free Ramadan for all.
“The NDLEA calls on members of the public to remain vigilant and to support the Agency with credible information that will assist in ridding society of the menace of illicit drugs.”
