PSL: South African side Kaizer Chiefs set to hire Sunday Oliseh

Quick Read

Oliseh, who once coached the Nigerian national team, is widely respected for his tactical discipline and strong personality.

South African football analyst, Mamadou Gaye, has advised Kaizer Chiefs to consider appointing former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh as their next permanent head coach.

The Soweto-based club has been without a substantive manager since October last year, when they parted ways with Nasreddine Nabi.

Following his departure, the club placed the team in the hands of interim coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze, who were tasked with overseeing the squad for the remainder of the 2025–2026 season.

Speaking during an appearance on SuperSport’s Soccer Africa programme, Gaye expressed concern over the club’s prolonged reliance on temporary leadership.

According to him, a club of Kaizer Chiefs’ stature and rich history should not spend several months without a permanent technical direction.

He stressed that leading clubs across the world usually act swiftly to secure a full-time coach in order to ensure stability, consistency, and long-term planning.

Gaye pointed out that while there are many qualified coaches available on the market, Sunday Oliseh could be a strong candidate for the role.

He described Oliseh as experienced and knowledgeable, having handled both national and club sides in the past.

The former Nigeria international is currently unattached and has previously managed teams such as Verviétois, Fortuna Sittard, and SV 19 Straelen.

Oliseh, who once coached the Nigerian national team, is widely respected for his tactical discipline and strong personality.

His appointment, if considered, could bring a new direction and renewed ambition to the Glamour Boys as they seek to restore their dominance in South African football.
