Former U.S. President Barack Obama has said he is completely done with elective politics, joking that any attempt to return could cost him his marriage to former First Lady Michelle Obama.

Speaking during an interview, Obama said:

“First of all, I’m not a politician anymore and I can’t be, right?”

He added that while he could technically contest smaller offices, he has no interest in returning to power.

Driving home the point, he said:

“I believe in the Constitution and also I believe in my marriage and Michelle would divorce me if I even if I could run again.”

Obama also spoke about life after the White House, stressing that he and his wife are now focused on inspiring younger generations.

According to him:

“Michelle and I still have the capacity… to inspire and motivate young people and invite them into this process.”

He said the future of leadership must come from younger people who understand today’s economic struggles.

“That’s going to come from the 20, 30-year-olds… they’re the ones who are going to remake our institutions.”

The former president also warned that political discourse in the U.S. has declined, describing parts of modern politics as a distraction driven by social media and media theatrics.

Obama maintained that his current mission is to help raise new leaders rather than return to frontline politics.
