Rivers United technical adviser, Finidi George, has admitted that his side was beaten by a better team following their 3-0 defeat to Moroccan club RS Berkane in the CAF Champions League.
The Port Harcourt-based club struggled throughout the encounter, with the Moroccan side dominating possession and creating the clearer scoring opportunities.
Despite making history as the first club to finish their group stage campaign with a win, Rivers United managed just one point from six matches in the competition.
Speaking in a post-match interview, Finidi conceded that his team could not match the intensity and quality of their opponents.
“RS Berkane were the better side. They dominated and created all the chances in the game. We tried to respond in the second half, but it wasn’t enough,” Finidi said.
He, however, expressed optimism about the club’s future on the continental stage.
“We have to congratulate Berkane. We wanted to do better in the tournament, but it wasn’t possible. If we qualify again next season, we will come back stronger. It’s a learning process for us,” he added.
