The Presidency has accused former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, of trying to create tension in the country.
The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, made the statement on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday.
Ajayi said El-Rufai is also trying to shift attention away from the serious corruption allegations he is facing in Kaduna State. According to him, the former governor is spreading false information to damage the Federal Government and present himself as a victim of persecution.
He added that El-Rufai wants to turn his personal issues with the Kaduna State Government into a national matter because he believes Nigerians may not support him over the corruption allegations.
Ajayi wrote that El-Rufai has two main goals: first, to create political tension and fear in the country; and second, to distract the public from the corruption accusations against him in Kaduna State.
Recently, El-Rufai criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government during an interview on national television after returning to Nigeria.
There were also reports that officials of the Department of State Services attempted to arrest him at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. This development has sparked widespread debate across the country.
