NiMet urges airlines to review flight plans over dust haze threat
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has warned airlines about a strong dust haze that could disrupt flight operations.
In its daily weather forecast obtained by Newsmen, NiMet said a large dust plume is currently over Chad and Niger Republic.
Strong northerly winds, blowing at 800 meters with speeds of 25–30 knots, are expected to carry the dust into northern Nigeria.
The agency said thick dust haze, with visibility of 1,000 meters or less, is likely to affect parts of Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Yobe, Jigawa, Bauchi, Gombe and Borno states.
NiMet advised airlines to take necessary precautions and obtain airport-specific weather reports from the agency for proper flight planning.
The agency also urged people, especially those with asthma and other respiratory conditions, to be careful due to the current weather situation.
