Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has received a rehabilitation boost after returning to light football training, even as SV Werder Bremen have ruled him out for the rest of the season following knee surgery.

Bremen sporting director Peter Niemeyer confirmed the development, stating that the club does not expect the forward to regain full match fitness before the end of the current campaign.

Boniface suffered a knee injury during training in December and underwent surgery earlier this year after medical consultations. The 25-year-old is currently undergoing rehabilitation in Germany as he works towards full recovery.

Recent updates show the striker has already returned to the pitch for light drills. Training footage shows him completing agility runs around slalom poles, engaging in short passing sessions, and practising light finishing into mini goals.

However, the sessions are not taking place in Bremen. Instead, Boniface is completing his recovery programme at his parent club, Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

Medical treatment addressed cartilage damage in the striker’s knee. As part of his recovery process, he has also resumed gym sessions, including weight training and stability workouts, according to short clips shared via social media.

Despite the encouraging progress, club officials insist his rehabilitation timeline means he will not feature again this season.

Boniface joined Werder Bremen on a season-long loan deal last summer and made 11 league appearances, providing two assists before suffering the injury setback.
