Borno Assistant Commissioner of Police killed in crash

The Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Borno State Command, ACP Abubakar Balteh, has died in a fatal road accident.

The Borno State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday by its Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso.

According to the statement, the senior police officer passed away on February 21, 2026, following a vehicle crash.

“The Borno State Police Command regrets the passing of ACP Abubakar A. Balteh, who died today, 21st February, 2026, in a fatal vehicle accident.

“Until his demise, he served diligently as the Assistant Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Borno State Command,” the statement read.

Daso added that details regarding burial arrangements would be announced later.

He prayed for the repose of the late officer’s soul, saying, “May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest.”

The development comes months after the command also lost its Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCID, DCP Ahmed Ibn Umar, who died in November 2025 after a prolonged illness at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

Police authorities described Balteh as a committed officer who served the command with dedication until his death.
