Issavybe

Quick Read

By Emmanuel Daraloye

Issavybe’s Try again is one for the soul. It’s a motivational song that doesn’t shout, nor does it rely on loud sounds and crescendos before it makes a point. Try again is a friend, a warm hug after a long day, one that consoles and calms, reminding the listener that with life comes hope. It’s this soft strength that makes Try again powerful.

Released on the 28th of August, 2024, Try Again opens with a paradox: “you don’t have to try again…”. It’s a very audacious opening, especially for a song that aims to preach hope. Issavybe plays with his audience’s mind, asking them to sit and ponder the possibilities of a motivational song beginning with discouragement. As the lyrics continue, it becomes vivid that it’s a discouragement but reassurance. It’s as though the artist is saying; you don’t owe the world any validation. No one else matters but you. You are not under pressure. You are not to please anyone. You are choosing to be great, and that’s what matters.

“You don’t have to be afraid”

This line appears to guide. Issavybe obviously sets out to counsel a particular person, say someone who is starting out and already afraid of not getting it right. The line is one that carries so much depth. It’s the epicenter of the song’s emotional core. Undoubtedly, fear is one reason people stop chasing after the things they love. The fear of failing, of not getting it right. Most times, it’s this anticipation of failure that defeats us, not the failure itself. Issavybe preaches bravery in Try Again, shames fear in the face. Simple yet powerful. The line carries no complicated metaphors, only simple truth expressed in clear, relatable terms.

The lyrics continued powerfully with profundity. They carry so much truth. They discuss the universal experience of courage and fear. For Issavybe, music does not just entertain but enlighten, an avenue to give out to the community somehow. There are times we desire success but are too afraid to tread the path to it. It’s why Issavybe sets out to address some of these hindrances in Try Again. Like fear; the fear of starting, and the fear of failure. With Try Again, the listener is motivated and cheered.

In Try Again, there are no complicated sounds, only the needed melody to pass the message. The message is not altered by the production. Instead, it’s improved by it. Some songs rely on strong instrumentals before they convey their message, this is not the case with Try Again. In Try Again, the message is all that matters. It’s why it has lyrics that are relatable for the universal audience. The melody is invitingly satisfying. It’s one that makes one pause and ponder. It’s the type of song that motivates, consoles and comforts. It’s one for every moment. Happiness and sorrow. Whether you are starting out and already frightened, or you are in the process of trying and about to give up, Try Again is the strength you need.

Fundamentally, what astounds me most about Try Again is its soulfulness. Right from the vocals, to the sound, and delivery. Issavybe seems to be on a mission to open our souls bare, sitting it down for an honest, brutal conversation. Sometimes, it’s about resilience. Other times, it’s about precision and patience. Issavybe’s Try Again makes trying again less of a burden and more of a choice. Try again unapologetically preaches patience and  perseverance, hardwork and determination. It’s an anthem for every hustler.

With Try Again, Issavybe succeeded at creating a motivational song that is relatable to all. Evergreen and honest. And honesty I have learned is what drives the motivations that matter; it’s the purest form of encouragement. The song advocates for faith and love. After many replays, Try Again begins to feel like a quiet anthem for resilience. It begins to appear like a scripture to every determined listener. How it does this is simple: by taking it slow and steady. Not rushing. Not promising instant results. By presenting forth the courage to continue, to keep basking in the dark as one journey through the other end of the tunnel where lies light.

Towards the end of the song, Issavybe comes clear with his message: You should try. You should keep trying. If you can dream it, you can do it. It’s not too late to start out. Every individual wields the capability to rise beyond the utmost limit. Sometimes, what people really want is to be seen, to know someone is out there cheering them up. In Try Again, Issavybe did not only see his listeners, but made them know he has stood where they stand, and he’s still standing.
