NIIA DG, Commissioner Want Better Deal For Pensioners

Pensioners all over the country have been charged to form a formidable common front to arrest, further inhuman treatment by pension administrators through genuine dialogue and a road map to promptly ease the present inhuman treatment meted to them, in the payment of their legitimate entitlements.

The federal and state governments have also been enjoined to endeavour to alleviate the suffering of pensioners by collaborating with pension administrators to find an enduring solution to their problems.

These are the submissions of the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Pension office, Ikeja, Lagos, Mrs. Folashade Olatoye who represented the Commissioner, and Professor Bola Akintehinwa, Director General, Nigeria Institute of International Affairs, during a one-day seminar on solutions to the pensioners’ problems, organised by the Bola Afolabi Foundation, at the NIIA, Kofo Abayomi Avenue, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The seminar, which attracted eminent scholars and ebullient resource facilitators, pleaded for a more humane approach in the treatment of pensioners since “the young shall grow,” it therefore behoves on pension administrators to display human sympathy in the treatment of pensioners “knowing full well that we will all retire one day, we should therefore strive genuinely, at all costs and at all times, to prepare for a peaceful, reliable and purposeful old age, that would guarantee a secure and comfortable life after retirement. The resource persons pleaded with pension administrators to remember that they too will one day become pensioners.
