The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Mr Christopher Maikalangu, has described his victory in last Saturdays FCT Area Council election as historic and reflective of the people’s democratic will.

“This victory, secured by over 40,000 of our residents, is not a win for one political party. It is a victory for every resident who believes in a better, more prosperous AMAC,” Maikalangu said while speaking at a victory press briefing on Tuesday in Abuja.

Represented by the Secretary-General of the Maikalangu/Nadabo Campaign Council, Mr Zakari Babale, Maikalangu said the large turnout and 40,295 votes he scored in the election reaffirmed public trust in his leadership and support for continuity in AMAC.

He expressed his appreciation to AMAC resident while promising more people-focused projects across the municipality.

“We heard your needs clearly during our ward-to-ward campaigns, and those needs will be addressed in no distant time.

“We reiterate our commitment to bringing more government presence into your communities through enhanced security, infrastructure, healthcare, education and empowerment,” he said.

Maikalangu noted that he defeated opposition heavyweights by a margin of 28,000 votes, describing the outcome as unprecedented in AMAC’s electoral history.

According to him, no previous candidate had polled such a high number of votes in the council’s elections.

“This is a clear statement to the entire nation that the FCT is a home for the APC, and the APC has come to stay.

“I have done extremely well in providing adequate infrastructure and good governance, and that is reflected in these results,” he said.

He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and the FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike, for their leadership and transformative agenda in the capital.

He also appreciated the Minister of State for FCT, Dr Mariam Mahmoud, for her “motherly advice and guidance” throughout the process.

Maikalangu thanked security agencies, the media and party agents for ensuring a peaceful exercise.

He paid tribute to traditional rulers, religious leaders and the business community for their support.

“To our market women, artisans, transporters and the entire business community who call AMAC home, your belief in our vision is the fuel that will drive our next term,” he said.

The Vice-Chairman-elect, Mohammed Nadabo, attended the briefing as the council leadership pledged collective efforts to deliver promised dividends of democracy.
