‘You are not growing, just aging,’ ID Cabasa challenges beliefs

Nigerian music executive, Olumide Ogunade, popularly known as ID Cabasa, has challenged traditional beliefs, associating old age with wisdom.

The producer, while speaking on The Clarity Zone podcast, explained that not all old or elderly people are wise. He buttressed his point, stressing that the assumption that wisdom should be associated with age is wrong.

ID Cabasa stated that although older people can be wise or smart, wisdom is not exclusive to just age but rather experiences and competence.

“The assumption that the older you get, the wiser you are is an assumption that has never been true. I am not saying older people are not smart or wise. But most times, people see themselves as wiser because they are more experienced not competent. But most of the experiences that you are bringing, a lot of them are obsolete,” he said.

Cabasa noted that people tend to gather more experiences as the age, stressing that such instances require individuals to be intentional about growing and not just aging.

“If you are growing as a person, there is a tendency that as you get older, you are going to be wiser. But that isn’t the case if you are not growing but just aging. We are dealing with a generation that came with computer OS but you learned how to use computer. So, we need to be careful not to demand for respect only on the basis of age,” he added.
