The Lagos State Government has unveiled a comprehensive traffic management plan to ease movement along the Lekki–Ajah corridor as rehabilitation works shift to the Epe-bound carriageway of the Lekki–Epe Expressway.
Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the decision followed the successful completion of the Chevron to Admiralty Way stretch on the Lagos-bound carriageway.
Osiyemi stated that there will be a total closure of the Epe-bound carriageway from Admiralty Way Junction to Jubilee Bridge, Ajah, to allow uninterrupted construction works from intersection to intersection.
He explained that vehicular traffic will be diverted to the Lagos-bound carriageway with lane allocations adjusted to peak periods. During the morning peak from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., two lanes will serve Lagos-bound traffic while one lane will accommodate vehicles heading towards Epe.
In the evening and night peak from 3:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., he said two lanes will serve Epe-bound traffic and one lane Lagos-bound traffic.
Osiyemi urged motorists to make use of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road as an alternative where feasible, adding that officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other traffic personnel will be deployed strategically to ensure seamless movement.
He added that a tow truck will be stationed along the corridor to provide rapid response to breakdowns and emergencies.
The commissioner disclosed that partial closures and restricted traffic flow will be enforced at key intersections during night-time operations.
He listed Admiralty Way Junction, Maruwa, Freedom Way, Chisco, Jakande, Igbo-Efon, Chevron, Lekki Conservation Toll Plaza to VGC, and VGC to Jubilee Bridge as affected locations.
Osiyemi further stated that all intersections along the corridor will be fully closed for eight hours at night during asphalt laying operations to guarantee quality delivery and safety.
According to him, the rehabilitation will be implemented in clearly defined phases, ranging from five to thirteen days per segment, covering Admiralty Way Junction through to Ajah Jubilee Bridge.
He appealed to residents and motorists to cooperate with traffic officials, obey diversion signage and plan their journeys carefully throughout the construction period, assuring that further updates will be communicated as work progresses.
