Chelle still has one year remaining on his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and his immediate focus remains on building a competitive Super Eagles squad ahead of upcoming international assignments

Super Eagles head coach, Éric Chelle, has addressed the recent speculation linking him with the managerial position at French Ligue 1 side, Olympique de Marseille.

Chelle’s reputation soared after guiding Nigeria to a commendable third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, a performance that reignited interest in his managerial credentials across Europe.

The 48-year-old tactician was reportedly among the candidates considered by the French giants following the dismissal of Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi. However, Marseille have since appointed former Senegal international Habib Beye as their new head coach.

Speaking on the Histoires de Foot Podcast, Chelle clarified the situation, revealing that there was no direct contact between him and the club.

“At that moment, OM were looking for a coach. So my agency got in touch with the club to, I think, propose me. And then after that, my agent and I didn’t do anything else,” Chelle explained.

The Malian tactician emphasized that the approach did not progress beyond his representatives making initial contact, effectively distancing himself from claims of advanced negotiations.

Chelle still has one year remaining on his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and his immediate focus remains on building a competitive Super Eagles squad ahead of upcoming international assignments.

Despite recurring rumours about his future, the former defender appears committed to seeing out his current deal, unless circumstances change.
