The defendant, David Udoh James, is one of seven men facing prosecution over the alleged abuse of a Junior Secondary School (JSS) student from Etoi community in Uyo Local Government Area.

The Akwa Ibom State High Court sitting in Uyo has revoked the bail earlier granted to one of the suspects standing trial over the alleged sexual abuse of a 13-year-old boy.

Justice Okon Okon, in Suit No. HU/41/2025, withdrew the bail after the defence counsel, Barrister Ifayi Ejika, announced his withdrawal from the case, citing inconsistencies in his client’s appearance in court.

The defendant, David Udoh James, is one of seven men facing prosecution over the alleged abuse of a Junior Secondary School (JSS) student from Etoi community in Uyo Local Government Area.

Other defendants include Okwudili Levi Okeke, Idara Itam Daniel, Daniel Jacob Edet, Udofia Edem Udosen, David Bassey Bassey and Nsikak Emmanuel Ben.

In revoking the bail, the court ordered the surety to produce the defendant on March 10, 2026, when the case resumes. The surety was also directed to appear alongside the accused, with a warning that failure to do so would attract legal consequences.

According to court proceedings, the case gained prominence after allegations emerged that the minor was subjected to repeated sexual abuse and threatened not to disclose the incidents.

Testimony indicated that the boy was allegedly lured by a night security guard attached to Qua Iboe Church School in Etoi and later introduced to other adult men.

The alleged abuse reportedly came to light after the victim’s health deteriorated, prompting his parents to seek medical attention and demand answers. Medical examinations were subsequently conducted as part of the investigation.

Police later arrested the suspects and charged them to court.

The matter is expected to continue on March 10, 2026, as the prosecution pushes forward with the case.
