Governor Dapo Abiodun has hailed the Ogun State Judiciary as the conscience of the State marking its 50th anniversary with a commitment to further modernization and unwavering judicial independence.

Speaking at the Golden Jubilee Public Lecture, titled Fifty Years of Justice, Integrity and Public Trust: “Building the Future of the Ogun State Judiciary,” the Governor represented by the Deputy Governor Engr Noimot Salako Oyedele reflected on five decades of legal excellence and outlined a tech-driven roadmap for the future.

“Fifty years is not just a passage of time; it reflects integrity, courage, and a commitment to justice,” Governor Abiodun stated.

He paid tribute to the pioneers whose sacrifices laid the foundation for the rule of law in the state.

Abiodun emphasized his administration’s focus on providing a dignified environment for the Bench, citing the renovation of courtrooms, improved security, and the provision of official vehicles and residential accommodation for judicial officers.

In a significant update, the Governor noted the upcoming takeoff of the Abeokuta Division of the Court of Appeal. To support this, the State has provided land for construction, six new duplexes for Justices, and 20 bungalows for administrative staff.

Looking forward, the Governor advocated for the integration of virtual hearings, digital filing, and automated case tracking.

“Innovation must complement tradition,” he remarked, praising Chief Judge Mosunmola Dipeolu’s efforts in modernizing court processes.

With election cycles approaching, the Governor urged the judiciary to remain an impartial arbiter.

“Do not allow yourselves to be drawn into partisan interests. The credibility of our democracy depends on your neutrality.” He said

“The judiciary is not subordinate to the Executive or Legislature. It stands parallel, with the sacred duty to interpret the law and protect the Constitution.”

“Without justice, there can be no order. Without integrity, there can be no credibility. Without public trust, there can be no legitimacy.”

Governor Abiodun concluded by reaffirming his administration’s support for financial autonomy for the judiciary and continued investment in manpower to reduce the pressure on sitting judges.

He urged young legal professionals to guard their integrity as they inherit the legacy of the last 50 years.

The event was attended by the Chief Judge of Ogun State, Honourable Justice Mosunmola Arinola Dipeolu, alongside serving and retired judges, members of the Bar, and top government officials.
