‘On your mandate we shall stand’ – APC reacts after Fintiri dumps PDP

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to the defection of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), tweeting its support for the governor and reaffirming the party’s commitment to Nigerians.

In a post on the party’s official X account on Friday morning, APC wrote: “On your mandate we shall stand”, echoing the popular mantra associated with President Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Governor Fintiri announced his resignation from the PDP during a statewide broadcast from Yola, bringing along his cabinet and key PDP officials in the state. “This decision is driven by the need to align with progressive forces that can deliver sustainable progress for our state,” Fintiri said.

Fintiri’s defection pushes the APC’s direct control to 30 out of Nigeria’s 36 states. The APC now holds an overwhelming majority, with the remaining states controlled by smaller parties such as Accord (Osun, following Governor Ademola Adeleke’s earlier shift), APGA (Anambra), and Labour Party (Abia).
