Malami back in prison as court revokes bail, fixes fresh date for hearing

Quick Read

Malami was re-arraigned on Friday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following the reassignment of the case to a new trial judge.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has revoked the earlier bail granted to former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, in his ongoing money laundering trial, ordering that he be remanded in custody pending a fresh bail hearing on March 6, 2026.

Malami was re-arraigned on Friday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following the reassignment of the case to a new trial judge.

The court directed that Malami and his son be remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre, while his wife, Asabe Bashir, is to be held at Suleja Correctional Centre in Niger State.

The judge fixed March 6, 2026, for the hearing of their new bail applications.

Meanwhile, in a separate case involving the Department of State Services (DSS), a court granted Malami bail. However, the fresh ruling in the EFCC matter means he and his family members will remain in detention until their bail applications are determined next week.

The charges against Malami relate to alleged money laundering offences. Proceedings in the matter are expected to continue after the bail hearing.
